Olavur Olsen

Musician, trumpet player

Born in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands in 1977. Started playing the cornet at hte age of ten. Growing up he played with the local brass band and other classical as well as pop and jazz groups.

At the age of 20 he began studies at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus with Kristian Steenstrup and Martin Schuster as his main teachers. He received his diploma exam in 2003.

During the time at conservatorie he also studied improvisation with Jesper Riis and Lars Vissing as his main teachers.

He has played with a broad variety of groups and orchestras. Amongst others Kluvers Big Band situated in Aarhus Denmark and the Faroese Symphony Orchestra.

In 2001 he participated in the European big band project Swinging Europe on lead trumpet which toured Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland,Scotland and England, where the orchestra then for a whole week played at the prestigious jazz club Ronnie Scott's in London.

He has since moving back to the Faroe Islands worked as a freelance classical and jazz musician being soloist with various ensembles and doing studio recordings with different groups and ensembles.

A regular member of Faroese ensemble Aldubáran since 2007. He also teaches brass instruments at the Faroese Music School.
